Tick tick tick goes the clock. Methodical, like a metronome. Time is interesting. It moves so fast. At the same time it seems slow. The small and gradual day to day changes suddenly become significant. Each day’s little accomplishments move us one step closer to an ultimate goal, and suddenly, we have achieved something. With Jared’s law school career swiftly coming to a close, I look back and wonder what happened to the time. Three years ago, I was getting ready to marry my soul mate. Getting ready to move away from home for the first time. Getting ready to begin a new life far away from everything I knew.Three weeks after we got hitched, Jared and I packed our belongings and started our cross country U-Haul adventure. We made it to Washington DC in three and a half days. We made it there with just one minor glitch - I had a brief moment of panic in the middle of Ohio. Thankfully Jared had me feeling better by the time we made it to the Pennsylvania state line, and all was well. I spent our fist summer in DC pounding the pavement looking for a job. The humidity shocked me, my hair was a frizzy mess and my black interview shoes made my heels bleed. I pressed forward and found a job right around the time Jared started school. I had high hopes for making friends with a bunch of law school wives, but that plan didn’t work out. I guess it wasn’t meant for me to be part of a law school wives club. I’m no good at clubs anyway. Jared and I did make a few great friends, though. Most importantly, we were each other’s BFF. I talked to Jared all about my crazy co-workers and he would tell me all about rights and justice. I can now say I know this elusive guy Miranda fairly intimately. Jared and I have become a great team - partners in crime and justice.
Today, my BFF, soul mate and partner in crime has made a great accomplishment and I’m incredibly proud of him. Jared won his first real court case. Through a clinic he has been involved with at school, Jared was able to help a client get political asylum into the US. He went to court today and successfully presented his case to an immigration judge. Months of hard work, with excruciatingly long days of gradual accomplishments, have culminated into a great achievement. I am a proud wife.
