Yesterday Jared, Staci Jo, Nick and I travelled back in time. We walked on the dirt, breathed the air, and saw the beginnings of America as we know it. First we stopped at Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in America. Jamestown is located on the banks of the James River close to the Chesapeake Bay. We could really feel the vibes coming from the rich history of those early settlers. We can now say that we’ve been where Captain John Smith once lived; where he bartered with the Algonquian Indians and befriended Pocahontas.
On our short visit to the past, we also stopped by the Yorktown Battlefields. In 1781 General Cornwallis’ British army was forced to surrender to General Washington’s American and French army in the last major battle of the Revolutionary War. The victory at Yorktown ensured America’s independence and completely rerouted the course of world history. It was an awesome experience to stand on these spots that you can only attempt to picture in history class. It was especially fun to be able to experience it with Staci Jo and Nick.
We are having a grand time. Next we will be taking a historical ghost tour in Old Town Alexandria – mwa ha ha ha. It should be spooky!
