Last weekend Jared and I packed up the Pip and headed for Balboa Island. That one dollar ferry ride across the Newport Bay transported us to another world. Balboa Island is quite the funny little place - cheesy arcades, clunky old merry-go-rounds and little snack shacks stocked full of frozen bananas line the streets. Women both large and small wander around in cutoff short shorts, bikini tops and high heels. Balboa Island is what I imagine the Jersey Shore would be like, minus the Guidos.

Little kids lined the streets selling lemonade and cookies. Jared, being the softie he is bought some of both. We snagged a cookie just in time, since the boy selling his goodies (while wearing a decorative red costume with gold bangles) was about to “close up shop.” We also got a Balboa bar – a vanilla ice cream bar dipped in chocolate and nuts.

All in all, Balboa Island was just alright. I can’t say I’d highly recommend spending the day there. But hey, if you like high heels, short shorts and cheesy arcades, Balboa might be the place for you.

That sounds like a pretty fun time. I am glad you got the cookies before the kid closed up shop!
Sounds like a perfect place for two of our sisters. I wont name names though! LOL
Sounds fun. Sometimes cheesy is good.
