90 years.

Today my dear Grandma Fae is celebrating her 90th birthday. I wish so much that I could be in Utah to celebrate with her, but alas I am stuck here in California, thinking of her on this monumental day.

I was lucky enough to grow up living right next door to Grandma Fae. When I think of my younger years I think of walking next door to steal chocolate covered strawberries from her fridge. I think of Christmas dinners in her beautiful dining room and sewing projects on her old Singer. I think of summer nights on her back porch and I think of green drinks with her every morning when I was in college. I think of the clubs we started together and the pep talks she gave me when I was feeling down. Grandma Fae has influenced my life in every which way. She has loved me and cared for me and been there whenever I needed her.

I left home at 23, but the miles have only made my heart grow fonder for Grandma Fae. As one of her biggest fans, I must take a moment to brag about her a bit. Grandma Fae makes 90 look like the new 60. She is absolutely gorgeous and full of life. And, I must mention that she always smells good (which is highly unusual for a person of her age). She is a wonderful example of how to age gracefully and with dignity. She is compassionate and is always willing to share her many talents with those around her. She is smart, funny and always kind. I can only hope that if I live another 61 years, I can be half the woman Grandma Fae is. I love all 90 years of that woman and am proud to be her granddaughter.

Happy birthday Grandma Fae. I love you.
