Away to Monterey.

Since Jared had an extra day off work this weekend, we decided to pack up our things and take a road trip up the coast to Monterey. Jared lived in Monterey for a year just after high school to study at the Defensive Language Institute, so he wanted to show me his old stomping grounds.
Let me tell you, the drive to Monterey was spectacular. If you have the time and like road trips, this one is not to be missed. Once we passed Santa Barbara, we drove along miles of grape vineyards that made us feel like we were back in Spain. Then we made it to Big Sur - what a treat that was. On our right was a thick redwood forest; on our left was a steep cliff dropping down to the beautiful Pacific.
Unfortunately, Piper was not as excited about the scenery as we were. She was quite fussy and didn’t really get any good naps thanks to the ridiculous California roads. Piper hates pot holes and so do we. Despite the fussing, we made it to our destination. What a charming little fishing town Monterey is. We were able to check out the seals sunning themselves on rocks in the bay, we walked through cannery row and we drove out to lover’s point.
All in all, it was a nice little weekend getaway. Hopefully Piper learns to like car rides before our trip out to Utah. Otherwise, Jared and I might have to take a detour to the nut house.

Oh yes, and Happy Memorial Day to you all.

What a cute little family. I think Piper will be excellent on the way to Utah. She will be thinking about seeing me the whole time, that will excite her!

No she will know Debba is at the other end of the journey. She will be very happy and calm on the journey to SLC.
