Month 1.

Little Micah has been with us for a whole month already. I have been in a sleep-deprived fog, making the quick passing of time seem a little bit unreal. I guess time flies when you’re a zombie! I must say, juggling a newborn baby and a two-year-old is not for the faint of heart. I don’t know how my mother had so many children two years apart. Mom – you are my hero! Here are some notes on the first month:
  • Micah is a dear. He puts up with Piper’s pestering like a champ and his little face just melts my beating heart.
  • We aren’t getting much sleep, although the time between night feedings seems to be getting longer and longer.
  • Piper is adjusting, slowly but surely. She isn’t as mad at me anymore and she seems to be warming up to Micah a bit.
  • I have been eating nonstop. Apparently producing breast milk takes lots of chocolate chip cookies and Sprinkles cupcakes.
  • We have been much more adventurous with Micah than we were with Piper. In his first month, he has been out to dinner, he has spent a morning at the pool (not in it), he has seen the ocean (he didn't get out of the van, though), and he has made a few trips with us to the park. It seems like I was terrified to leave the house with Piper at first. With Micah, we sort of have to, or Piper would go nuts.
  • Micah has been able to meet some of our family – my sister Traci, my niece Claire, my mother, my sister Marcie, my sister Jenny, my nephew Hendrix, and my brother-in-law ‘One. Jared’s parents will be coming to meet him in July, and then maybe we will make a trip to Utah for Labor Day so he can meet the rest of the family.
  • Piper has been spoiled by her dad and all of the visitors. She has made a few trips to Disneyland and many trips to the park and pool.
  • We are enjoying being a family of four. This first month has certainly a challenge, but even more, it has been a blessing. We are looking forward to what the coming months have in store!
