A rut.

I am a little bit embarrassed to admit that Jared and I watched part of Sarah Palin’s new reality show on TLC last night. I am also ashamed to admit that I get easily addicted to reality TV programs and that I am already mourning the end of Little People Big World. Anyway, back to Sarah Palin…she said something on her show that got me thinking: “Life is too short to get stuck in a rut.”

Hmmm. I often feel like I am stuck in a rut, especially being a new mom away from my mom and sisters. I get cooped up in my apartment, I get tired from being up all night and I get really, really discouraged. At the moment, I think I may actually be stuck in a big old pothole. And you know what? Life is too short for that sort of nonsense. Letting self-pity, doubt, fear or lethargy consume my time is just such a waste. Forget about waiting for the New Year, I am making a resolution right now to get out of my funk and be something better.

Here’s my plan:

1)      Sign up for a class that Piper and I can take together while Jared is at work (a mommy and me singing class or something).
2)      Get outside for some fresh air every day. I live in Southern California for heaven's sake, I need to take advantage.
3)      Start a fun project and finish it. I would like to try my luck at making some throw pillows.
4)      Make a new friend.
5)      Go on a date. It’s time to find the courage to hire a babysitter so my lover and I can go on a date.
6)      Don’t beat myself up. If I happen to have a bad day, I must shake it off. No permanent relapses allowed.

What do you do when you’re in a rut?

I do a little retail therapy!!!

Retail therapy could fulfill a couple of your goals at the same time, a girl's activity while you are getting outside. Maybe you could make a friend at the mall too.

When I was in your situation, away from home and with baby Rachel, I had a couple of friends from church who were too. We got together once a week and took the babies swimming, and we also traded baby sitting so we could go on dates. It was a life saver! :) Friends can really fill the void. Go get em! :) Who wouldn't want to be friends with two such cute girls?? :)

For a fun project you could get a loom - I have been making hats like a mad woman and it really helps me take my mind off any stresses. Hey... I have a good idea for you. Is there a gym around where you could do some fun classes? They usually have babysitting there and you could meet some friends.
